We have a friend who is sick. Since September he has been battling a serious illness, one that is threatening his life. He is fighting hard and it has been difficult. Most of us would be in despair...and rightly so. But, quietly, with a gentle smile, he sits in his living room chair, hanging on to hope. Every morning this man and his wife recite together, Psalm 118:24:
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
They consider every day a gift. Today God can once again be their comfort and show his love. They could focus on the struggle and the fear. But instead they have chosen to put their hope in God, the God who sees, the God Most High, the One who provides, the God who heals. He has supplied them with a rich community of supporters who also put their hope in that lavish unfailing love. Several times we have gathered around our friend to pray over him using verses from the Bible that speak of God's great goodness and the hope we have in him.
Yes, best of all, God is with us. God is with our friends who are waiting. They are not alone to figure everything out. He is with them. That is enough.
