One of my simple pleasures is this little hidden balcony attached on the second floor to the back of our house. It sits next to my quilting/writing room where I can see it whenever I look out the window. At this time of year my little nook calls out, "Come out to rest... I have much to offer." Usually I have to push the suggestion aside due to other commitments. But this day...I have been reading a Stephen King book! Ah...it's not what you think! I really have never read one of his books. But this is different. On Writing is his first piece of nonfiction; a memoir written to show how life circumstances led him to be a writer. It has been informative and interesting to me. He writes: "If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut." So on this bright, warm Saturday morning I took a bit of the advice I was given by Mr. King and sat my bottom down on the chair and read.
Ah! An uncomplicated leisure that adds to my craft! There is no better reason to heed the call in this pleasant little hide-away on a warm spring Saturday morning.
